What time of year is best to elope in Norway?

So you are planning an elopement in Norway and wondering what time of year is the best time. Honestly, Norway has a lot to offer all year round, so It all depends on what experience you are longing for. I will list what is special about each season, with some recommendations on where to go!

1. Winter and the polar night

Winter and snow is what most people picture of when they think of Norway. And there is a lot of fun activities to do as well. Especially in northern Noway! You can go husky sleighing, on a snowmobile trip, skiing, spending the night in a self made snow cave or in a ice hotel are some of your options. And honestly, it is not as cold as you might think.

What many people come to Norway for in winter is of course the magical northern lights! And they are truly enchanting! They can be unpredictable, so it is a good ide to have more than just a few days if you want an aurora experience. And who wouldn’t want photos under the northern lights?

What can be challenging about winter and photography is the lack of sunlight. But do not get me wrong, the polar night can be be a colorfest! Imagine the most colorful sunset you have ever seen and duplicate that by 10! The sky can get pink and orange, and the blue hour is loooong if you like moody and cosy blue hour photography. But you do have to be good with planning according to the light!

2. Spring with apple trees in bloom

It has been said that spring in northern Norway lasts for a day. If you define spring as a snow free landscape that is totally on point. It can be unpredictable if the ground is snow free in may or even in June! What you would visit Northern Norway for in spring is mountain skiing! You can climb a mountain in full sun in spring, so if climbing mountains is your jam, go for it! The days are long and beautiful!

But if you are less of a skiing person you might consider visiting the fjords of western Norway. How about having an elopements in the midst of a field of apple trees in bloom, with turquoise fjords and amazing views. I know all the beautiful places to go!

If you want to elope in Norway in springtime, but want the arctic experience Svalbard is the spot! You get northern lights in night, icebergs and polar bears in the day!

3. Summer and the midnight sun

After a long and dark winter, the world shifts and the days are endless! If you want golden hour photos you have all evening to get them! In early summer, the mountains are still snow capped. You could hike to a glacier followed by ice-blue waters.

The possibilities are endless in summer! How about kayaking in turquoise waters around white sandy beaches?If you are not keen on hiking you can still visit all the fjords and exquisite views of Lofoten and Senja.

4. Autumn

If I had to pick a favorite season in Norway Autumn would be my top pick. Why? Well, since there is no snow you can get anywhere by foot, not being constricted by the cold or snow. The colors are amazing and you still get northern lights from mid September.

5. Embrace the Weather

The weather in Norway can be unpredictable. It can shift quickly, especially in the mountains. It is always a good idea to bring extra clothing!

If you do not like getting your hair wet, you can feel constricted. Prepare to be outside in any weather, embracing what Mother Nature has to give. The only thing stopping you are proper clothing and locals giving you good advise to stay warm and safe.
