Getting engaged in Tromsø
Do you want to pop the big question to your partner in Tromsø and have the photos to show it? Here is your guide!
1. Where should I propose?
There are so many beautiful spots! Both up at Fjellheisen and at the viewpoint in Ersfjordbotn are classical locations. The downfall of spots like these is that they can be a bit crowded. But fortunately, a good photographer can edit people out of the photos with ease. The positive thing about the crowd is: they make it easier for the photographer to act incognito!
But, there are so many gorgeous views to have as a backdrop for your proposal. And the photographer doesn’t have to be invisible for the proposal to be a surprise. In the photo below I acted as a guide from airbnb (which I also am) for Tyler and Sierra. Picked the couple up at their accommodation and took them to this beautiful scene in Ramfjord acting as if we were going on a hike. Me and Tyler had a plan all along: they would start walking up the path, and he would get down on one knee, playing their favorite song on his phone. I was ready to capture the whole thing on camera.
Sierra was so surprised, and of course she said yes! I then took them to a second location for some champagne around the fireplace and more couples photos.
2. Can I propose under the Northern lights?
Yes, absolutely! But it does require careful planning, flexibility and a little luck!
First of all, it is easier if I act as a northern lights guide/photographer, taking my couple out to do photos under the northern lights rather than being one in a crowd.
Second of all it is important to remember that the northern lights can not be booked. Sometimes it is fully overcast and at other times the sky is clear, but there is no activity. Having just one or two set dates can make it difficult to make the proposal under the northern lights to happen. To increase the chances we should agree on a timeframe in advance and pick the best evening a few days in advance.
Another way to be flexible is to have a plan B for proposing in daylight if chances for northern lights on the set date is low.

3. What if the weather is bad?
Planning is key! Sometimes having a location A and a location B is enough. Weather is often more rough out towards the coast. Having a place more shielded for harsh weather can be a good idea.
Having a plan C to propose inside is also an option! How about taking your coming fiancé to a museum and popping the question there?
4. Embrace the weather!
When visiting Norway you need to be able to embrace the weather that is. If people in Norway were to sit inside whenever the weather was bad, they would all be couch potatoes! The weather is a part of the story! Let it show in the photos! Look how beautiful the snowflakes in the air are in the photo below. The scene is moody and romantic.
5. How does this work?
Get in touch as soon as you know you are coming to northern Norway, with an idea of proposing. This way we can set a timeframe for the proposal. We will talk on the phone to discuss the best option for you, making the proposal an experience of a lifetime! We will keep in touch to nail the details so nothing is unclear and you can relax. Proposing can be quite nerve-racking, so knowing that everything is set with your photographer can make you more at ease.
Conclusion
Make the most out of your romantic visit to northern Norway and pop the question in the Arctic! I will be ready to help you make the most out of it!
