Elopement activities for a dreamy Norway elopement
There is no “should” in elopements! The only thing you should do is to do you and focus on your love! But, there are plenty of elopement activities to get your juices flowing that you can do during your Norway elopement.
Here are my favorite activities to do together:
1. Aurora Chasing
Winter and snow is what most people picture of when they think of Norway. And there is a lot of fun activities to do as well. Especially in northern Noway! You can go husky sleighing, on a snowmobile trip, skiing, spending the night in a self made snow cave or in a ice hotel are some of your options. And honestly, it is not as cold as you might think.
What many people come to Norway for in winter is of course the magical northern lights! And they are truly enchanting! They can be unpredictable, so it is a good ide to have more than just a few days if you want an aurora experience. And who wouldn’t want photos under the northern lights?
What can be challenging about winter and photography is the lack of sunlight. But do not get me wrong, the polar night can be be a colorfest! Imagine the most colorful sunset you have ever seen and duplicate that by 10! The sky can get pink and orange, and the blue hour is loooong if you like moody and cosy blue hour photography. But you do have to be good with planning according to the light!
2. Swimming with orcas
It has been said that spring in northern Norway lasts for a day. If you define spring as a snow free landscape that is totally on point. It can be unpredictable if the ground is snow free in may or even in June! What you would visit Northern Norway for in spring is mountain skiing! You can climb a mountain in full sun in spring, so if climbing mountains is your jam, go for it! The days are long and beautiful!
But if you are less of a skiing person you might consider visiting the fjords of western Norway. How about having an elopements in the midst of a field of apple trees in bloom, with turquoise fjords and amazing views. I know all the beautiful places to go!
If you want to elope in Norway in springtime, but want the arctic experience Svalbard is the spot! You get northern lights in night, icebergs and polar bears in the day!
3. Enjoying a candle lit dinner
On your wedding day, you should go all out and enjoy an exquisite meal together. You might want to have a chef come to your place so you can enjoy an intimate meal together, or if you love making food together, why not do so now? If not, there are some real gems of restaurants to go to, with an amazing view as well.
See, when you are not feeding 200 or your “closest” ones, you can really splurge on a meal for two, or the few special guests you do have.
4. Husky or reindeer sleighing
If I had to pick a favorite season in Norway Autumn would be my top pick. Why? Well, since there is no snow you can get anywhere by foot, not being constricted by the cold or snow. The colors are amazing and you still get northern lights from mid September.
5. Helicopter ride
The Lyngen alps are spectacular! The view can be compared to the Italian Dolomites. The best viewpoint to explore the alps are definitely from above. How cool insn´t it to get the most special flight of your life photographed on the day you get married. What a way to start a marriage!
6. Snowmobiling
One of the absolute best ways to enjoy the arctic is with a snowmobile! It is so much fun and you get to see a lot in a short time! And if you really want to let loose Svalbard is the place to do it as you can roam free. Partner up with a local guide and you might even experience a polar bear!
6. Snowshoeing with a view
If you like a good workout, snowshoeing can definitely be fun to do to get to the best views. Even though it is work using them, they are quite accessible and you dont´t need much special equipment or technique. I have several for rent and do guided tours every week during the winter.
Conclusion
Long story short: you can do whatever you want on your wedding day! If you are keen on a low key day, do that, or go on a wild adventure. Even better: do both, whatever your hearts desire! When you free yourself from traditions and rules, your world is your oyster!
